Arco al Poggio - Arceno Rentals Club

‘Arco Al Poggio’ is an exclusive apartment within a traditional Tuscan farmhouse among the hills of Villa Arceno, a private estate and nature reserve in the ‘Chianti Classico’ region of Tuscany.

Set among vineyards, olive groves, oak and Mediterranean pine forest, ‘Arco Al Poggio’ has its own exclusive, secluded garden with sunshades and sun loungers. Guests also have the use of a tranquil privately shared swimming pool with designated sunshades and sun loungers.

With its own entrance through an iron gateway the apartment is set over three levels. A doorway accesses the living room and kitchen directly from the ‘loggia’. The Tuscan style living room has a wood burning stove, comfortable seating with a large dining area and very well-appointed kitchen. At one end of the living room through a doorway is a comfortable twin/double bedroom with ceiling fan and en-suite bathroom. At the opposite end a stairway leads up to the large master bedroom with ceiling fan and beautiful views over the vineyards and the village of San Gusmè. A bathroom with large bathtub and shower serves the master bedroom.

The apartment has Internet access, Wi-Fi, ‘Smart’ 55” T.V. DVD player and ‘Bluetooth’ speakers, it is ‘well-connected’. Furnished to high standards with antiques and traditional designs ‘Arco Al Poggio’ accommodates four people for a unique, stylish and comfortable experience, a true ‘home from home’.

We enjoyed every moment of our stay at Il Poggio. The email communication and arrival information were clear and easy. We were met by Gaia upon our arrival. What a gem! Even though we had visited the area previously and know many of the inns and outs, she was a wealth of information, giving restaurant suggestions and day trip ideas. The house itself was wonderful. We were four people (my husband and 2 boys~ ages 8 and 11) and we had everything we needed. After a long journey, the welcome basket was a fabulous treat. The house itself was tasteful, and we felt as though we had really come home. The book collection, music selection, sat tv etc. made for an easy transition for all. The bathrooms were modern and the kitchen use was a wonderful bonus. We had an excellent week and enjoyed coming home at the end of each day. The Arceno property is stunning at any time of year and is always fun to explore. I'd give more stars if I could. We will be back for sure. Grazie Anna and Gaia!

Arco il Poggio was the perfect property for our family of four (two adults, two young men in their twenties). Comfortable, clean, quiet, and homey. The setting among vineyards and olive trees looks like a postcard of Tuscany. Gaia, the concierge, was very helpful and met us on arrival. The welcome basket included enough food for dinner that evening and breakfast the next morning; we really appreciated not having to go to the grocery store right away. Kitchen is stocked with all the pots, pans, utensils, etc. any cook could need. The mid-week cleaning and linen change was a nice way to refresh things. Bathrooms are clean and modern. Master bedroom very spacious with a huge wardrobe for clothing. Cozy bathrobes were a welcome touch. We used Arceno as our base for excursions to Florence, San Gimignano, Siena, Montepulciano, Gaiole in Chianti (highly recommend Tuscany Bicycle there), and Lago Tresimano, as well as nearby Castelnuovo Berardenga. (Fabulous meal at AnonimaX in CB: the pecorino cheese souffle with fresh shaved white truffles was a standout.) In the evening we spotted deer and a wild boar but none of the local porcupines. If you are looking for a scenic, quiet Tuscan location, thoughtfully restored and beautifully maintained, this is the place for you. We hope to return in the summer when we can use the pool!

The biggest attraction for me is the unusual spacious loggia with a wonderful view, great for breakfast, lunch and dinner or just lounging, no matter what kind of weather. The house itself is very welcoming: it is clean, kept up well, with tasteful interior, well equipped kitchen and good mattresses. The house, garden and pool are beautiful situated in the quiet Tuscan landscape. It feels secluded, but in the near neighborhood are some lovely villages to go to the market or just to have coffee or for great Tuscan food (Castelnuovo Berardenga, San Gusme and Ambra (leather factory). And Siena is also not very far.

My adult daughter and I stayed here for a week the end of March, 2018. The villa was perfect for us! Anna is wonderful to deal with...she communicates promptly and her instructions are crystal clear. The villa itself is located in the most beautiful area of the southern Chianti region. There are 3 lovely small towns very nearby...San Gusme, Villa a Sesta and Castelnuovo Berardenga...each of which has some outstanding restaurants. There is a Coop in Castelnuovo Berardenga...it is small but has all the necessities you might need. Siena is about a 25-30 minute drive to the west...definitely worth a day’s visit. The villa was immaculately clean, the furniture was extremely comfortable, the kitchen contained everything you would ever need and was very updated, the bathrooms were both large and lovely, and the views out the windows were magical. Gaia, the concierge, was extremely helpful with restaurant reservations and anything else a visitor might want...it was so nice to know she was close by if we needed anything. I would highly recommend this villa to everyone!!

My family and I stayed at Arco Al Poggio at the start of September 2017 and could not have hoped for a better villa. Arco Al Poggio is set in the beautiful grounds of Arceno, surrounded by vineyards. The exact location of the property is peaceful and the villa itself is set in a larger property containing two other small homes, so it is very private. Nearby, the small towns of San Gusme and Castelnuovo Berardenga are a short drive away. Both have several fantastic restaurants and the latter has a great supermarket to buy essential supplies. Siena, Montepulciano and Florence are easily accessible As for the property itself, we would definitely recommend it and stay again in the future. It's the little touches that make the holiday one to remember. - Anna and Gaia provide a seamless experience from start to finish with Gaia only a call away to offer concierge services / advice before and during your stay. - A fantastic welcome food hamper is provided along with wine and drinks trolley - The villa is spotless throughout (and cleaned during your stay - twice in a 10 day holiday for us) - Every amenity you could possibly want in a self catering villa is provided from a wide variety of kitchen equipment, DVDs, coffee machine, BBQ, Books etc - The pool area is well maintained and quiet My wife and I normally stay in hotels on holiday but after experiencing the flexibility of a self catering villa of this quality we are sold for future holidays and would finish by saying that Arco Al Poggio has set the bar high!

Tip: going with the club option is a good bet, as you'll have everything you need (in fridge, wines, drinks cabinet, for bbq) already in situe when you arrive (high quality local produce)..... and the mid-week clean + sheet change is a blessing.

We read the reviews and thought this is for us! Two couples who enjoy spending their holidays together but also like to have their own privacy and space. This house was perfect! Well appointed, very elegantly furnished and with everything one might need for a cooking lesson. What fun we have had in learning how to make pasta. The owner Anna and her team gave us all the right tips to enjoy the house, the estate where it is located and the surrounding area. They were always there for us and they made our life so easy from our arrival until the end of our holiday (not to mention the welcome basket and drinks we found on arrival!). Our first time in Italy, we were a little daunted of not being able to find our way around in only one week. However everything went so smoothly and the hospitality offered was "luxurious" to say the least. Finally we must mention the fantastic place where the property is located, Arceno, unique in this part of the world and very exclusive. The villa is perfect for two couples but also for a family with two children. Thanks Anna for the fantastic experience. We are looking forward to another week of Tuscan "dolce vita".

This place is fabulous. Vanessa met us and toured us through the house and around the yard, which includes a pool. She explained the use of the appliances, showed us where everything was in the house, gave us her contact information and restaurant suggestions. A very warm welcome. ll Poggio is accessed via a drive over country roads and up a hill to a position near the top. Walking up stone steps to a covered porch with views over the valley brings you to the main level. Sitting in this outside space with wine and cheese in the late afternoon away from distracting noises is very relaxing. The main level kitchen, dining and sitting areas share the same large space in an open concept. The kitchen features modern appliances, is well stocked with all the kitchen necessities and was an invitation to cook our own Italian meals. We enjoyed a tasty breakfast here, with supplies bought at the local grocery store, before starting our day. The welcome basket (a great touch) contained coffee, cold meat, cheese, jam, honey, pasta, sauce, bread and wine. The dining area has a sizeable table and 8 chairs. The sitting area has a comfortable couch and lounging chairs next to the large fireplace with wood burning stove. The bedroom on the main level is roomy with plenty of wardrobe space. The bathroom with shower is next to this room, as is the washing machine. The second bedroom is upstairs. It is larger than the main floor bedroom, with a large wardrobe, desk, couch and chairs. The adjacent spacious bathroom is modern with a great tub and shower combination. All windows in the home have screens so they can be opened to allow a cool night breeze in and keep any insects out. The town of San Gusmé, about a kilometer away, is visible from the second floor bedroom through the vineyard. You can hear the peel of the church bell. A twenty-minute walk in a bucolic setting of trees and vines leads to the Arceno winery. After a tasting of the locally produced wines we walked about 30 minutes to San Gusmé for some pasta and pizza in this small, quiet town. A short drive from the house is the town of Castelnuovo Berardegna. Go to Bengodi Enoteca Ristorante. Have the risotto. Enjoy the Thursday morning market. Volterra, San Gimignano, Siena, Castellina in Chianti are all within a short, scenic drive of Il Poggio, as are some great vineyards in this south region of Chianti. Make this your home base in this part of Tuscany. This is the Italian experience you came for.

We will start by saying that even before we arrived here the friendliness and high levels of communication from Anna and Vanessa were exceptional. We had all the information we needed to get there, so we found the property easily. Anna and her team look after you very well. The property itself is beautiful and is easily the best looked after apartment/villa we have rented over 25 years of family holidays. The attention to detail is first class. Whatever you think you might need from a holiday apartment, it's there. The apartment is large and as we were only 3 people we had lots of space. There are 2 very large bathrooms with really good showers, essential after a hot day out in the countryside. The apartment is one of three in the property so there are other families around and the pool is shared but you do have your own allocated loungers/poolside area. Pool towels are also kindly provided. The Arceno estate is very well situated in wonderful rolling Chianti countryside, any visitor will not be short of options for wine tasting with so many vineyards nearby. Also nearby are many wonderful hilltop villages which we tended to explore in the mornings then come back for lunch on the patio before a cooling afternoon by the pool. Siena is also only 20 mins away by car so is easy for a day trip and more of a city experience. From Siena you can catch a train to Florence. Both cities are wonderful, if very hot compared to the Chianti hills which always seemed a few degrees cooler. We read a lot about "Chiantishire" before we left the UK and so we were a little concerned that it might be overrun by tourists but that is not the case at all in the area around the apartment. Eating out options near the apartment are reasonably plentiful and range from Michelin star establishments to simple local cuisine. Castelnuovo Berardenga has several restaurants, we tried most of them and found the food to be pretty good with a good choice if not extensive menus. The restaurant hosts were in our experience very friendly. We would suggest that you book tables as occasionally places were full . The wine lists of course were fantastic! The other villages nearby all have at least one restaurant. We have no hesitation in recommending this apartment for a family who wants to have a great location to explore the beauty of Tuscany.

We have just returned to the UK after two weeks in Italy. After touring in the first week, the second week spent at the II Poggio villa in Tuscany was idyllic. It was a great place to relax after spending time in the cities. It was a brilliant base from where to explore Tuscany. The views from the balcony and all the windows around the house were stunning. It was exactly how we had pictured it and hoped it would be. The 10 minute walk from the villa through the vineyards to San Gusme under a clear blue sky was one of the highlights of our time in Italy. There was everything we needed in the villa, the welcome basket was a lovely gesture and asking us in advance what else we would need on arrival was really appreciated. The way the villa is set out was excellent for the 4 of us staying there – with bedrooms / bathrooms on either side and a choice of whether you wanted to be upstairs or downstairs. Vanessa talking us through how to use everything and leaving instructions was so helpful. The areas in the garden and around the shared pool area allowed us to relax in the sun through the day. We loved spending evenings relaxing on the balcony as the sun faded and sampling local wines, with some candles kindly provided to keep the mosquitoes at bay. We closed the door for the last time with heavy hearts – after a wonderful week in the heart of beautiful Tuscany. Thank you Anna and Vanessa.

Great vacation in a very endowed house

We (German couple with two 15 and 17 year old sons) have spent our annual vacation in Anna's house in the Villa Arceno estate. It was a very pleasant experience, and here are the main reasons: The preparation (discussions about payment process etc.) happened very fast and smoothly. The description of the house is accurate. When you rent it, you are close to nature, you may see birds, bats, a pheasant... Arriving there, not only a very practical welcome basket greets you (which may help you to avoid having to go shopping after a long trip), but also the introduction and explanation you will receive is very helpful. The house itself was kept very clean and tidy. The garden is also nice and well kept, but the most admirable thing for us (we have some experiences in renting houses for holidays in different European countries) was the elegant and comfortable interior of the house, and the perfect endowment of the house. We did not miss anything; if you do not want to visit the recommended restaurants in the area (which would be a great mistake), and want to live on self supply, this is perfectly possible. The pool is also well kept, but even my tough boys used it only three times since the wheather in May was still too cold. By the way, you do not to bring your towels; there are enough in the house for this purpose. Beds were fine and comfortable; we used the fireplce twice, very cosy. We visited some of the recommended restaurants. All were good, but I want to especially praise the Anonimx for good service and excellent food and wine. Were there weaknesses? Hardly any serious ones. The eletrical wires do not allow you to use dishwasher plus stove at the same time; you are warned to do that, but we found the same is true for dishwasher and water cooker. Then you have to find the main cusout switch in the outside... Parking is well available, but if you have a van or a SUV, there is little space for you. And we were slightly surprised to find that the main house is separated in three (very separate and isolated) appartments, but we may simply have overlooked this. And actually, it was not a problem at all So we spend a very nice ime in Il Poggio, enjoyed it tremendously, and can only recommend it further.

This year I came for my Christmas holidays and the experience has been overwhelming as ever. The wood burning stove and the cosy house have made our Christmas perfect. We are returning guests and have enjoyed the house in all seasons. We have seen the almond tree blossoming in March, the cherry tree in full bloom in June and the grape harvest in September. The colours change but the landscape never ceases to amaze us. The house offers all possible comforts, it is elegantly furnished and amazingly equipped. We often cook at home although we also enjoy evenings out at the local restaurants and trattorie, you are spolit with choice. If you love art and history this is the place. The estate of Arceno is amazing, offers so many quiet walks and a nice stop at the vinery for a local wine tasting. Anna is so keen to share with her guests the interesting tips to make your stay special, her team that supported us during the stay has always been very helpful and engaging. I hesitate to write a good review of this property because we want to keep it to ourselves! But since our lovely hostess requested I must comply. This was our second time to stay at this lovely property in the Arceno wine estate and it was as magical as the first time. From the welcome basket full of items for the evening meal, breakfast, etc. to the assistance offered when we locked our keys in the car, Mrs. Crawford and her staff bent over backwards to accommodate us and make us feel welcomed and cared for. Guests who desire the peaceful quite of the countryside will love waking up to the postcard views from all directions: distant villas, Italian cypress trees, mists settling between the hills, pheasants clucking in the vineyards, and dogs baying on the chase for wild boar. It is a very sensual place. Although wineries and fabulous food are within short drives, we especially loved the walk through the vineyards to beautiful San Gusme to dine several times at La Porta Del Chianti (see my review on Trip Advisor). Be sure to have a case of wine from the Arceno estate shipped home. It is excellent. We are looking forward to our return again in 2016 for this has become like a second home to us.

The description of this "home away from home" is spot on. 100% everything the site said is there and more. We went at the beginning of September with another couple and arrived to a welcome and a welcome basket which were wonderful; this meant that, arrived late, we could settle in after our journey rather than rush out for food. The estate is very exclusive. The scenery, solitude and the occasional glimpses of wild life, hares, deer and pheasants were magical. The pool was a great hit and was exhilarating to plunge into when it was so hot! When not dreaming by the pool, we enjoyed trips out to Siena, San Giminiano and also tried several of the recommended trattorias and restaurants. We also had one day of cooking course were a nice lady came to our house with her equipment and taught us how to make pasta and then we ate together. A great experience to be repeated next time we come to the house (as we shall certainly return). Il Poggio is a wonderful place to stay, lovely location in amongst olive groves, vineyards and extensive forests. The property is an old style Tuscan farm house, tastefully furnished amazing ceilings and lovely views over the countryside. It's very relaxing and a great base for visiting many wonderful places. We even managed to get caught up in the Palio in Siena. The kids loved the pool and the weather was perfect...not too hot. The internet access is better than at home and the ice cream fabulous... We would return tomorrow and would definitely recommend it to family and friends.

Our week at this stunning location has been one of the best family vacations that we've taken in recent years. The landscape is just breathtaking from every window in the house. You are surrounded by vineyards, lavender, rosemary and the sounds of cicadas. The pool is wonderful and refreshing in the toasty Tuscan sun. The restaurants near the estate are the best and offer local produce in excellent dishes at reasonable prices. The house was so comfortable that we had to make a considerable effort to go sightseeing. But when we did, we were rewarded with incredible scenery and enchanting towns within short driving distance. Thanks to Anna and Paolo for making our stay so easy to book and comfortable. We'll be back!

What an amazing dream vacation in Italy we had with our family of four. Our hosts at Il Poggio, Anna and her team, are beyond unbelievable... they took time in explaining about the area, ensuring we had everything we needed, giving us plenty of privacy and always there if needed. The property was extremely comfortable for ourselves and our children, exactly and beyond what appears on the website. We could eat in the dining room or sit out on the beautiful terrace with the spectacular view over Arceno. Everyday we were so happy to drive home from a great day of sightseeing to catch that unique evening sunset from the pool. There is a fully equipped kitchen and everything we could ever need. The bedrooms in our home were very comfortable. We never w our two boyatched tv but did have plenty of Internet when needed. The home is a few minutes walk to the little hamlet of San Gusmè and a quick drive down to the town of Castelnuovo Berrdenga (for daily shopping, bank, newsagent etc) and a 10 minute drive to highly recommended town of Siena. Not to mention its a close drive from dozens of other small medieval towns and places where to taste the amazing Tuscan food and wine. We were sad to leave beautiful Il Poggio...what a wonderful place and an incredible vacation!!! Celine and Marc

Highly recommended! Well appointed with everything one would need including wifi Comfortable beds; large rooms; a lovely property Set in vineyards with beautiful views; a10 min walk to charming San Gusme We were spoiled with a wonderful welcoming basket of Italian food and wine which was very welcome after our long journey. Easy drive to the medieval towns like Sienna and San Gimignano I feel it only fair to mention that the wire transfers from Canada didn’t go as smoothly as they should have but Anna was very helpful and responsive and it all worked out in the end. And don’t forget to visit the Arceno winery on the estate for some wonderful Chianti Classico!! Sarah and Steve

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the house Arco al Poggio. The house exceeded our expectations; homely, perfectly appointed, immaculate, great kitchen to cook in and stunning grounds. We were even able to light a fire in the evenings in the wood burning stove when it would get a little chilly. It was such a pleasure to be surrounded by all the nature and quiet. This is an ideal place for people looking to stay in a beautiful quiet setting that is a little off the beaten path. The village of San Gusme' , at walking distance, had a wonderful trattoria that we frequented. Wonderful trails to hike. And all within half an hour drive to Sienna and more touristy areas. This was a real oasis and we feel very fortunate to have been able to stay here. We highly recommend staying here to future travellers. Adam and Susan

Our week at Il Poggio has been perfect, fantastic house and location, secluded estate but still so near to Siena and Florence that you can make a day trip visit. The house is the quintessential Tuscan style, old farm house refurbished to the highest standards. We chose the property for the nice photos and comprehensive descriptions and it was all there, even more. Warm but not too hot, nice breeze at night and fantastic external space where to dine outside in the loggia in total peace and tranquillity in the evening after a long day out. A chilled glass of white wine and the noise of the crickets, what can one ask for more? We were travelling with two other friends and the house is so well laid out that each couple had their own privacy albeit being in the same house. The surroundings are astounding, a private, secluded and historical estate where you can have fantastic hicking tours along the white roads that cross the estate. And at the end of the road the nice village of San Gusme where to stop for a coffee before going back home. Not to mention the restaurants and wine tours .... so much to do and not enough time. We shall be back, a gem to remember. Lizzie

This country villa was a fabulous find, so close to Siena yet completely surrounded by the beautiful Italian countryside. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept; the house reflects in its features and decor a true Tuscan house. We stayed at Il Poggio for two weeks at the beginning of September. We had fabulous weather and we loved sitting outside on the loggia in the evening, drinking wine and watching the swallows flying around and chirruping to us. Our stay was wonderful and we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was a perfect location to make day trips all around Tuscany. The villa is within an immense private estate which is a fantastic and magic place; we used to walk along the cyprus alleys and the "white" roads, stop at the vinery for a fantastic glass of wine and then arrive at the medieval little village that you can cross in three minutes. Fantastic food and wine there to cherish us before walking back to our house. We would recommend this property to our friends and would book again when returning to Tuscany. Rebecca and Sammy

My wife and I stayed at Arco al Poggio for one week in June 2014. We have travelled in Italy often since 2000, and would place this beautiful home at the top of our list. The homeowner and the lady in charge for its maintenance are the perfect hosts...easy to work with, extremely helpful in every way, and have a very high standard of excellence in the property they rent. The home itself truly feels like a home away from home. It has been restored in the true Tuscan style, with terra cotta floors and beamed ceilings. The grounds are magnificent, and very relaxing. The kitchen has everything you need, should you choose to cook meals there. It is perfect for a family of 4 or 2 couples travelling together, as there is a split bedroom floor plan with bathrooms en suite. Nearby there is a charming little medieval village. We enjoyed gelato and cappucinos at the bar in the main square and a wonderful dinner with Helene at Bottega del 30. Castelnuovo is the perfect home base for exploring all that Tuscany has to offer. A truly beautiful stay in magical Italia!!

‘Arco Al Poggio’ is set within the exclusive private estate of Arceno in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Siena, in the Chianti region of Tuscany. The estate of Arceno amounts to 1000 hectares of land and 22 km of unpaved "white" roads. Nature, beauty and tranquillity are the main features of the exclusive Tenuta.
The Villa is perfectly located for day trips to the main towns of Tuscany, Siena, Florence, Arezzo, Lucca and Pisa.
The area around Arceno offers quaint villages and medieval hamlets, outstanding landscapes, fantastic restaurants and the best wineries of the Chianti region.
